MDF is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres, combining it with a resin binder, and forming it into panels by applying high temperature pressure. MDF is denser than plywood, and can be used as an alternative building material.
HDF, also called Hardboard, is similar to MDF but much harder and denser. It has a much higher resistance to water and is often referred to colloquially as 'Exterior-Grade' MDF.
